A city game in the Gothic Old Town in Toruń, inspired by Copernicus. Teams crack 20–30 riddles, and the app tells them straight away whether an answer is right.
Seeing Toruń differently, like Copernicus
Kod Kopernika uses the street plan and topography of Toruń's Old Town as the game board. Inspired by Copernicus, we look at the city from a different perspective than everyone else. He made discoveries nobody else had thought of, and we came up with our own way of playing a game of winning the code.
This is not about sightseeing or ticking historically important places off a list. The game is played in the Gothic Old Town, which is on the UNESCO list, but what counts here is observation, not a guide.
In many city games someone only checks the answers at the end: you play for over an hour and wait almost an hour for the result. In others you have to complete tasks at successive points or look for "contacts" who rate your team, and the rating is positive anyway, because the game has to go on. With us everything depends on you, and every answer is verified instantly by an app on a dedicated website.
Five goals for every team
- Stop your team's running time.
- Get the code and use it at the right moment, because only the code stops the time.
- Find the answers within the marked game area to unobvious riddles that are themselves another code to crack. The game has between 20 and 30 of them.
- Enter the answer into the system. For a correct one, the system gives you a piece of information needed to get the code.
- With a full set of correct answers, move on to the last stage and press the virtual button that stops the time.
The answers can't be found with Google, Google Lens or Google Maps. You have to find them on the spot, within the marked game area.
Game control centre
To run the game, we built our own control centre that connects the offline world with the online one. The teams' answers reach it instantly, and the information on whether they are correct comes back just as fast. You can also see how your rivals are doing, and that always spurs you on.
The ranking refreshes every 15 minutes and stops updating 30 minutes before the end. So you are up against the running clock and the other teams at the same time.
Quick facts about the game
Three hours is the whole game: the introduction, the game itself, the wrap-up and the prize-giving. We guarantee almost three hours of fast-paced fun, during which the street life around you stops mattering and the only thing that counts is stopping the time.
The system lets us run the game for any group and any number of participants. One package is one team, so 20 people need at least five packages. Teams work on their own, without supervisors. We play all year round, and for autumn and winter there is a night version. The game is booked by companies for team building and by private groups for hen parties, stag parties and birthdays.
